You know what it is Morph, nowadays the Society has changed so many things, so to introduce a new arrangement like “Circuit elder” even though it’s satire, people can believe it. Let’s say the person who reported it to Redwood never came back to see Gorby say it was satire. I get it not everyone is a genius like you Morph, but that doesn’t make everyone an idiot/moron. Mellow out, smoke a cigar or have a beer or something

I also took Gorby’s thread seriously when he first posted it because he also didn’t initiatally say that it was a satire. So I can’t really blame Cedars or JR. I think if you’re gonna make a satire of something always say that it’s a satire initially cause if you don’t it’s just gonna mislead people. Just like what Watchtower says. Either label it a satire from the get go or don’t make the joke at all. -

Matt 5: 29, 30 used to justify shunning
by Jules Saturn ini had a family relative use this scripture found here to justify shunning.
the scripture reads as followed.
if, now, your right eye is making you stumble, tear it out and throw it away from you.+for it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to be pitched into ge·henʹna.

I had a family relative use this scripture found here to justify shunning. The scripture reads as followed
If, now, your right eye is making you stumble, tear it out and throw it away from you.+For it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to be pitched into Ge·henʹna.*+ 30 Also, if your right hand is making you stumble, cut it off and throw it away from you.+For it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to land in Ge·henʹna.
Now my personal opinion is that at first glance it looks like it is something that Jesus said that justifies shunning but if you read back to a couple verses before 29 and 30 you will find that Jesus is speaking of adultery and the scriptures read:
You heard that it was said: ‘You must not commit adultery.’+ 28 But I say to you that everyone who keeps on looking at a woman+ so as to have a passion for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Correct me if I’m wrong but using this in the context of shunning is incorrect. I interpret the scripture as being more anti masturbation as opposed to being pro shunning to having your right eye and right hand removed if you look at woman with lust.
I think it’s one of those scriptures that are misapplied by Witnesses to be pro shunning when taken out of context. It’s annoying that they do that

Sex before marriage
by Jules Saturn infor ex jws, pimos, pomos, faders, born again christians, agnostics, atheists, etc.
what is your opinion regarding sex before marriage, has your view been influenced since you left?
in western society, you’ll probably find yourself ridiculed to be an 18 year old virgin so i am curious to hear opinions from here.

Has the Governing Body ever been right?
by Jules Saturn ini asked this question to a relative after mentioning several situations where teachings were changed or readjusted (new light) and they have two reasons.
yes, they are correct because look at how the preaching work has grown through the decades and the advancements in witnessing and the second reason was the doctrine of the trinity and how the society opposes that.
i didn’t really have a response, especially for the trinity doctrine.. does the governing body have the rejection of the trinity belief correct?.

In regards to the point of the preaching work growing or having success I was going to point to the growth the witnesses have had in recent years in comparison to decades ago and also how the preaching work is still under ban in several countries. The trinity issue is a hard one to comment on

Detroit the movie on Netflix anybody seen it ?
by smiddy3 ina movie about the riots in the seventies in the city of detroit but especially with the reason for the riots and the attitude of police and how the nation treated people of colour.
and how they treated them and how the justice system failed them .. based on a true story.
i found it very confronting yet compelling to watch.. humans have a tendency to lump everybody together in the same basket ,however we are not all the same, their is good and bad in every race and culture whether they are black, white or brindle .. anybody seen it and like to comment ?.

Saw it last night, I thought it was pretty good, I do think that some scenes were really long and really dragged but I’m guessing that was done intentionally to get an idea on how long it must have felt to stand up facing the wall and being questioned and abused.

Are you better off as a worldly person or a JW?
by Jules Saturn ini was having a conversation with a relative who has been inactive for several decades (part of the ‘75 generation) and he argued that a person that is a born in is better off staying in the organization rather than someone like him who lived as a “worldly” person but then became a witness later in life.
he argues that when you’re born in, all you know nothing outside of the organization, so you’re better off in than out, that’s why when born ins leave the org, they always come back.
i agree that as a born in, your social circle is composed of witnesses but i do feel that even born ins would be happier outside of the org than being in.

Again my inactive relative argues that they are genuinely “happy” but they are conditioned to believe that they are happy. Thoughts?
